About the Event

Using the case study of Vinegar Hill, just outside Enniscorthy in Co. Wexford (which was the last stand of Wexford rebels of 1798), this online workshop will show you how to access online historical, archaeological, folkloric and other records to build up a story of a place.

This online workshop is part of the HISTORY HUNTERS training programme provided by the ANCIENT CONNECTIONS PROJECT to support curious individuals and those with an interest in their local history and stories, to develop skills and be mentored to dig further into their community's past, and share what they find effectively. This workshop is a follow up to the previous online sources training module.

This short ONLINE COURSE is one of four FREE modules of training that will equip you with all you need to know about collecting, recording and sharing a treasure trove of history and stories from your square mile. This 'Using Online Sources' workshop, sits alongside three other modules:

- Collecting Oral Histories and Stories

- Sharing Your Research

- Telling your Local Stories to the World.

USING ONLINE SOURCES - PART TWO

On this online course you will hear more about:

- The story of Vinegar Hill, Co. Wexford

- How to research that story online

- Tips and techniques to get the most from searching and researching on the web

- How to avoid research pitfalls by analysing online content

This workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Damian Shiels, Archaeologist and Historian, Abarta Heritage.

During his career, Damian has undertaken and managed numerous heritage-focused projects for private and public bodies in Ireland and Britain and has expertise in public engagement, interpretation, editing and publication. He has published a number of papers and books and presents internationally. Among his previous positions, Damian was a curator at the National Museum of Ireland. He specialises in conflict archaeology and the history of the Irish diaspora.

Mae'r gweithdy ar-lein yma yn rhan o raglen hyfforddi a ddarperir gan y prosiect CYSYLLTIADAU HYNAFOL i gefnogi unigolion chwilfrydig a'r rhai sydd â diddordeb yn eu hanes a'u straeon lleol, i ddatblygu sgiliau a chael eu mentora i gloddio ymhellach i orffennol eu cymuned, a rhannu'r hyn y maent yn ei ddarganfod yn effeithiol. Mae'r gweithdy yma yn ddilyniant i'r modiwl hyfforddi ffynonellau ar-lein blaenorol.

Bydd y gweithdy hwn yn cael ei hwyluso gan Dr. Damian Shiels, Archeolegydd a Hanesydd, Abarta Heritage.

Yn ystod ei yrfa, mae Damian wedi rheoli nifer o brosiectau sy'n canolbwyntio ar dreftadaeth ar gyfer cyrff preifat a chyhoeddus yn Iwerddon a Phrydain ac mae ganddo arbenigedd mewn ymgysylltu â'r cyhoedd, dehongli, golygu a chyhoeddi. Mae wedi cyhoeddi nifer o bapurau a llyfrau ac mae'n darluthio yn rhyngwladol. Ymhlith ei swyddi blaenorol, roedd Damian yn guradur yn Amgueddfa Genedlaethol Iwerddon. Mae'n arbenigo mewn archeoleg gwrthdaro a hanes y diaspora Gwyddelig.
