About the Event

(Scroll down for the information in Welsh)

This is our SECOND training day for the Ancient Connections Tourism Ambassadors. Our Ancient Connections Tourism Ambassadors will be skilled up to support the communities and serve visitors in our project areas in north Pembrokeshire and County Wexford, and along the new Pilgrim route being developed.

This training is suitable for:

  • Those with a passion for their place and time to give to some volunteering
  • Owners / Managers and Front Line staff in the hospitality industry: hotel, B&B, Self-Catering, Campsite operators etc.
  • Hospitality staff including bar and restaurant waiting and serving teams
  • Reception personnel.
  • Existing volunteers within the history, heritage and tourism sector
  • Walking and outdoor pursuit guides and rangers.
  • Art and Craft Gallery personnel

...and others with similar engagement with visitors.

As well as being informative and full of tangible new skills, it's also great fun and a good way of finding other like-minded people in your community passionate about your place AND networking with local tourism businesses.

As an Ambassador, you may get involved in a variety of activities, from simply providing a better depth of service to your customers to providing visitors and pilgrims with a personal warm welcome and sharing your local knowledge and insights with them. You might also get involved in representing your locality at local events and on heritage days. And then of course, there's also the exciting possibility of joining pilgrim groups on part of their journey to tell stories or just pass on local points of interest and a good Pembrokeshire / County Wexford welcome!

This March - April we're offering 3 full days of Ambassador Training in north Pembrokeshire and in Co Wexford, of which 2 must be completed in full. You need only attend the training based in your project area, i.e. either in Co. Wexford or in north Pembrokeshire. Two of these days will be class based, one will be 'out and about', visiting sites of special interest. It's up to you which two days you choose (and you're very welcome to come to all three!)

All can be booked on this site.

Another round of training will be offered in the autumn. If you fail to complete the training in this round, you have the option of completing in the Autumn. Those dates will be announced later this year.

Training includes:

- Local and national tourism context: getting to know who your local visitors are and what they're looking for / why they're visiting

- About the tourism economy in your area

- Customer service skills around meeting, greeting and sharing information with visitors

- How to develop bespoke local itineraries for visitors to your area

- Key aspects of local history, heritage and culture, people and places that make your square mile very special.

- How to share information engagingly and tell a story

ALL TRAINING IS FREE. The course modules are supported by comprehensive resource packs so that you can continue to learn and revise your learning in your own time. Ambassadors receive a certificate and a badge.

We also plan to bring our Wexford and Pembrokeshire Ambassadors together on a series of exciting exchange visits during this training programme, so that we can learn about each other's places and promote each other as destinations where our visitors can follow the strands of some of our most fantastic stories!
