Our FREE Gorey Welcomer Training is a shorter version of our Ambassador programme. It is designed for those in direct contact with visitors, interested in providing an improved information service to support and promote the local tourism economy.

About the Event

All are welcome to join our Gorey Welcomer training which will take place on Wednesday 21st September, 1pm-4pm.

Ancient Connections is reviving the bond between Co. Wexford, Ireland and Pembrokeshire, Wales, through a number of projects and events over the next few years. These include festivals, art installations and the development of a new pilgrimage route. To encourage visitors attending these events to spend more time in Co. Wexford enjoying the beautiful scenery, fantastic heritage and charming people, we are establishing Gorey Tourism Welcomers!

If you're short on time but want to learn about local history, heritage and improve your customer service skills, our free Gorey Welcomer training is for you. The training is over two half days and will cover:

  • Overview of tourism locally
  • Visitor needs – why a warm, informed welcome is important
  • An overview of Wexford's History 
  • Customer Service Skills
  • Key people of note in the locality
  • Local myths and legends
  • Places & pilgrimage
  • How to use this information in your business / activities

The training will be particularly suitable for:

  • Those with a passion for their place who'd like to increase their skills and engage more with the local tourism industry.
  • Front line staff at hotels, B&B, Self-Catering, Campsites etc.
  • Taxi/bus/coach drivers
  • Hospitality staff, including bar and restaurant serving teams
  • Reception personnel
  • Art and Craft Gallery personnel

...and others with similar engagement with visitors.

As well as being informative and full of tangible new skills, it's also great fun and a good way of finding other like-minded people in your community passionate about your place AND networking with local tourism businesses.

The course modules are supported by comprehensive resource packs so that you can continue to learn and revise your learning in your own time.

The two half-day sessions must be completed in full to receive a certificate for training.
